One CD to grab onto nowナ
Jon & Dianne Bachman of Fredericksburg have put together a CD of mostly original folk songs reminiscent of coffeehouse days when we 50-somethings wore bell bottom denims and tie-dye t-shirts hand-wrung of our own hands in our own kitchen sinks using any old white Fruit of the Loom we found stuffed in a drawer. That's the coincidental hook that makes you listen in to Objects in the Mirror.
But the singer-songwriter's compositions are not mired in the past at all. They span time from Jon and co-writer/wife Dianne's past to future situations and current conditions. It's both reflective and projective, but the message is now. The Bachman's point is that the past is a personal myth, the future uncertain, but now - good or bad as it fluctuates - is yours to seize and live. The CD also covers songs by Hull & Cleve, Phil Ochs, and Tom Waits. Jon's folksy voice, prime for ballads, and his guitar and harmonica, coax you to light a stick of incense, pour a glass of Mateuse (remember?), and listen well. Then the now of it all takes over and you switch to a micro-brewed beer or a sparkling water.
Co-lyricist Dianne, a helpful soul to so many people who know her, is a poet/lyricist of great intuition. Jeff Covert, who engineered the CD at Wally Cleaver and plays harmonica on the opening track, "Mirrors," was a middle school physics student of Jon's long ago but not far away, and their reunion was serendipitous. The CD is available at The Blue Dog, Picker's, Apple Music, Alley Door, and wherever Jon plays. It's beautiful. So throw on your khakis and Old Navy shirt and go grab it -- now !
